Healthy Tailgating Recipes

Preparation for football tailgating parties can span back months as dates are marked on calendars, tailgating trips are planned, and workdays are called off.

Every weekend of football season sports a different tailgating party filled with new people, the hottest tailgating gear and extreme fan apparel, outdoor games, drinks, and of course tailgating food! But too many of the traditional tailgating foods are high in fat and that could be bad for your health.

The solution? Mix in some of our healthy tailgating recipes that allow you to enjoy simple, healthy choices, at your next tailgate party!

Plan Ahead To Offer Healthy Tailgating Food Choices

All it takes is a little preparation and planning ahead of time to give you the option to eat healthy. Instead of swinging by the convenience store right before your tailgate and picking up greasy chips and fattening canned dips, you can bring your own unique (and healthier) tailgating recipes! You can prepare and make your own Thin Men Potato Chips, Hearty Touchdown Guacamole, and Supreme Bliss Chicken Tacos ahead of time for awesome inexpensive healthy tailgating ideas! We believe in healthy living and will strive to provide delicious recipes and tips all season long so that you can enjoy a better, healthier tailgating party experience!

Thin Men Potato Chips

Ingredients

  • Russet Potatoes (1-2 per person)
  • Sea Salt
  • Frying Oil – Vegetable (recommend: olive oil)

Directions

  1. First, you need you need a lightweight fryer (that usually runs about $35) filled with your choice of oil – vegetable works well, but olive oil is healthier.
  2. Preheat the fryer to 340 degrees and then wash the Russet potatoes, usually 1 potato per person. You can peel them, or leave the skin on depending on your preference.
  3. Thinly slice the potatoes and fry for 4-5 minutes at 340 degrees until golden brown.
  4. Toss your chips into a bowl on some paper towels to soak up the extra grease and lightly sprinkle with sea salt and they’re ready to pack up for your tailgating party!

Just because you’re aiming for a healthier tailgate doesn’t mean you have to leave your portable gas (or charcoal) grill at home. Bring your BBQ tools and your tailgating grill and give these healthy tailgating food recipes a try for some unique and tasty tailgating treats everyone will be raving about!

Hearty Touchdown Guacamole Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2-6 Ripe Hass Avocados
  • 1 Package Guacamole Seasoning
  • 1 small can of diced tomatoes (recommend: no-salt)
  • Lime Juice
  • Blue Corn Tortilla Chips or Pitas (optional)
  • Fat Free Sour Cream(optional)
  • Cherry Tomatoes (optional)

Directions

  1. Peel and cut avocados into quarters, separate from the seed and put into a bowl. Save one or two seed bulbs.
  2. Use a fork to mash up avocados to your preferred consistency.
  3. Add 1/3 of packaged seasoning per 2 avocados.
  4. Mix well and add 1 tsp lime juice per 2 avocados.
  5. Open and drain diced tomatoes and mix into guacamole.
  6. Add the saved avocado seeds to the mixture so your fresh guacamole stays green and doesn’t turn brown.

Score a Touchdown!

Store your fresh guacamole in a plastic container and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to head out for some tailgating fun! Use a 9x9 casserole dish and evenly spread out the guacamole. Put scoops of fat free sour cream into a plastic sandwich bag and cut a small end corner off the plastic sandwich bag, so the small hole allows you to design the football field. Draw football field lines and the end-zone before decorating the field with small cherry tomatoes. Wrap in plastic or seal with a casserole dish top.

Keep it chilled in a portable cooler or insulated backpack and eat as a dip with fresh pita or Blue Corn Tortilla Chips, or as a garnish for your other healthy tailgating recipes!
